Living Machines

John Todd, in is work developing living machines, achieved, in the most significant instance I know of, the application of industrial systems — technology and interaction with the divine Living World — that embody the sensibilities that the world's Indigenous Peoples have all generally demonstrated.

That means his achievement, which is quite remarkable, could be described as an instance of an engineer removing the wool from in front of his eyes (again, it's remarkable).

Check out Todd's work and remember that the wisdom and sensibility demonstrated in it are standard in the paradigm of traditional peoples Of the Root of the Tree of Life, all the vastly diverse Indigenous Peoples whose knowledge of living in harmony with Life was so inherent in their culture and society that they never created the problems which John Todd has sought to solve.

Living Machines as Harmonodes

The synergies attained in John Todd's living machines demonstrate the emergent properties of a harmonized and optimized system perhaps more dramatically than any other system I've seen.

The way properties like pest control emerge through the coupling of plant and animal allies in permaculture design, Todd's living machines unexpectedly demonstrated self-restoration in the event of mechanical malfunction and system shutdown.

The system restored its own equillibrium, because that's what living systems do, and resumed operation whereas a conventional system using biological digesters would have required a costly and laborous effort to be brought back to a functioning state.
